Mission Possible: Unsolved Mysteries

Page history last edited by wwl1 7 years, 2 months ago

Memo from Headquarters:

Since ancient times, people have wondered about strange sights and mysterious events.

Many of the world's mysteries have been explained through research and science, but some remain unsolved to this day. Have UFOs visited Earth? Are ghosts real? Does Bigfoot exist? Real life mysteries like these are controversial because people have different theories and opinions about how to explain them.

Mission:

"Mystifying Mythbusters", a weekly reality television show, is counting on all C.S.I. Agents to present accurate information as well as your 'own take' on one of the world's mystifying enigmas.  Is this mystery of the unknown FACT or FAKED? In order for your investigative research to be aired on the T.V. series, you will need to gather evidence and demonstrate that you are able to distinguish between facts, theories, and opinions and draw research based conclusions based on reasoned judgment.

Process: S.T.E.P.S. to an effective Investigation

Tasks:

1. Select an unsolved mystery to investigate. To help you select a topic, you will:

2. Target your topic. Set goals and timelines. Write HOT questions.  Locate resources.

3. Explore the evidence.

Record jot notes and organize your information.

What is the evidence that supports your conclusion?

Where did you find it? Why does it support your theory?

Use the 5 Section Breakdown to guide your investigation.

Create a minimum of 2 pieces of evidence you discovered from the site with materials you have at home.

Be creative! Examples: map of the area, footprints, scale samples, artifacts, fur samples, photographs, scale model, large scale drawing or mural, your own ideas....use your MI strengths and have fun!

   Put on your "Green Hat"!

   Let's get creative, people!

4. Presentation

Because the C.S.I. Agency is so highly regarded for its Agents’ creativity and perseverance, the T.V. producers are leaving this creative choice entirely up to you. Because time is money, you will have a maximum of 10 minutes of air time to share your findings with the viewing audience. What type of presentation will you use to broadcast your findings and conclusions to the world? You may choose one or a combination of the following presentation formats.

Technology has to be used in some way in your presentation - even if it is showing pictures while you are doing your skit.

 - Google Docs slide show

 - Prezi Presentation

 - Documentary video

 - Glogster poster

 - Animoto video slideshows

 - Storybird

 - Newscast - live “on the scene sighting"

-Talk Show - live interview with 2 locals who have stories that  will support your findings

or an expert in the field

- Tagxedo can add interest to your presentation

- Your own idea ( please complete a request form)

This mission requires thinkingproblem-solving, and reasoning. Use your critical thinking skillsAnalyze and evaluate the information. Justify your conclusions and opinions. Explain your reasons in a thorough, logical manner. Then have fun using your creative thinking skills to present your findings and theory in an innovative, entertaining format.

Check Presentation Dos for helpful hints.

5. So What?

Evaluate your findings and presentation based on success criteria.

Assessments

You will be graded on your research and your multi-media presentation according to the criteria on this rubric. You will also earn classwork points for your Weekly Work Log comments on the research process, planning an production.

Best of luck with your decisions. "Mysterious Mythbusters" is counting on you to share your knowledge to their viewing audience and keep their ratings high.

I read his project proposal and I am looking forward to learning more about ancient cities. Maybe someday we could plan a vacation somewhere and visit a site.

He is very excited about this project. He has made several comments on things he wants to incorporate into the final product. It could be a challenge to keep up to his ideas.
